The Coalition for Bicol Development (CBD), a network of civil society organizations operating in the Bicol region, conducted its 16th General Assembly on April 18, 2015 at LIKAS Function Hall in the Municipality of Irosin, Sorsogon Province.
CBD’s General Assembly gathered around 40 civil society leaders from the six provinces in Bicol, namely Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon. With the theme “CSOs shared responsibility in Achieving Peace and Development”, the Assembly deepened their understanding on the situation of Mindanao and its implications on the BBL. The Assembly identified appropriate responses to amplify the shared responsibility on Peace as civil society organizations clamor for development in our country.
Considering MINCODE’s active involvement in providing spaces for dialogue and discussions on peace and development, CBD invited MINCODE’s Executive Director to address their General Assembly.
In her keynote address, Ms. Raizsa Mae Anayatin, being a Bangsamoro herself, shared stories about the lives of Bangsamoro people and provided historical context on the peace process. She also pointed out that we can only achieve our aspirations for peace and development when there is strong participation from the people. She also emphasized that the Bangsamoro’s struggle for self-determination and the peace process are not merely Mindanao issues, but are national issues that need to be discussed and understood by the larger public.
